Replidyne enters clinical testing

By: The Denver Business Journal

Replidyne Inc. has initiated Phase I clinical testing of its topical anti-infective drug candidate REP8839, which is being developed for treatment of skin and wound infections, the company said Tuesday.

The drug is intended to prevent S. aureus infections including methicillin-resistant S. aureus infections in hospital settings. It is being developed in combination with mupirocin, a topical antibiotic.

Replidyne (NASDAQ: RDYN) is a Louisville-based biopharmaceutical company. Its lead product in development is Orapem, an oral antibiotic.

An investigational new drug application for REP8839, its second drug candidate, was submitted to the U.S. Food and Drug Administration in May 2006.
